Nirvana

Three men had dinner together and decided to share the cost. The waiter produced a bill for $25, so each contributed $10. The waiter returns the $5 balance and the three men split $3 equally among themselves and leave a $2 tip for the waiter.

Thus each had paid $9 and the total payment was $27. But the waiter had only $2; what happened to the other $1?
